Default Got in 2 car accidents today...

I got in 2 car accidents today driving my roomates car. Luckily no one was hurt, and not much damage was done to her vehicle. These 2 accidents made me realize that I really do need a car capable of handling snow and ice. I am looking for something sporty, luxurious and AWD? I want to spend around 30k, and will most likely buy used.

I think you need to realize that a 4wd car will not make you invincible on snow or ice. Any front wheel drive car should do fine on snow or ice unless you're talking serious drifts/feet of snow. Remember, AWD won't make you stop any faster and won't do much if anything for cornering. Rear wheel drive cars are a lot of fun but you have to know what you're doing to handle one. AWD will get you going and get you through things 2 wheel drive cars won't. But it won't keep you out of the ditch if you can't drive.

P.S. The most important factor for driving in poor conditions is to have good tires that are properly inflated.

Ding Ding Ding!!! Buy a set of snow tires. If you're dead set on an AWD car, I'd look at Audi A6's, BMW 330XI's, and Infiniti G35x

AWD cars slid as others do, but you know where there going, and there better at getting out of trouble, not like a rwd where for most people once it starts the slid you along for the ride.

Best cars I have driven in the snow. Subaru's. My bmw 325is was really good and it almost never got stuck, unless I really was trying to get it in there, (driving in the woods), and I roct it out with out pushing.

Any of those cars would be great for snow. Maybe even an x5 if u want a utility.

not to get on a high horse but...

It is pretty crappy IMHO the way auto companies market 4wd SUV's and AWD cars. In their commercials they show people plowing through snow and rain(ooooh, rain) without showing any consideration for conditions or altering their driving style at all. They sell their products by convincing people that if they have AWD they never have to worry. It never ceases to amaze me when everytime it snows 1/2 an inch in southern illinois I'll see 20 SUVS in the median or on the side of the interstate and often after one of them just passed me going 75 mph.

well down there, no one can drive in the snow. They freak out.

It comes down to the use of the vehicle, I bet i'm as good in my civic as a lot are in there awd's.

Some of us can. It's bad when people who might otherwise have the sense to slow down don't because they think they don't need to.

And I'm sure you're better than most SUV drivers. The truth is a person experienced with snow and ice is safer in a V8 positrac camaro than a novice in an SUV.
