Default Renting an expensive house

I'm planning to rent an expensive house in the bay area and live there with a couple of poker pros.

The first place I called laughed in my face after hearing that two of the guys have no rental hisory, are 21 yrs old, not in school, and play poker for a living.

Wondering if others here have had success renting a relatively expensive house($3,000-$5,000 per month) in the bay area. If so, what did you tell the landlord/rental company?

Lyric,

Don't write them a check. Ask them the security deposit. Leave 2x that + 6 months rent straight cash in their hands. Ask them for documents.

If they can walk away from 50 dimes in cash, they might be retarded,

I don't want them to think I'm a drug dealer. Lol. I think offering the bigger security deposit and 6 months rent up front is a reasonable solution, but I would imagine writing a check would work just fine.

Additionally, how would one go about moving the questions from "what do you do for a living, what's your rental history, and what are all of your credit ratings" to "I'll pay more security deposit and 6 months rent up front."

They'll think you are a degenerate either way. Cash just looks way cooler. Use a brown paper bag to transport it in.

But seriously, there really is no reason for them not to do this with so much upfront. You are bound to find one place that will take you with that sort of arrangement. Part of it is just the fact that you can come up with so much cash.

Lol. Agreed. Part of it is that they need to trust us as well. If we're rich and plan to party it up in the house they still don't want the 50k for fear we'll destroy the property.

When they ask you those questions just answer "I've never carried a debt, I'll pay in advance" and then have the right amount ready to hand over. They will think you are a drug dealer. Who cares? You're not.

sfa = sweet f all

Umm... I don't think any amount of money is going to allay that. Also they can sue the [censored] out of you and prevent you from ever buying anything on credit again more or less, if you wreck their place.

Depending on if the place is run through a management agency or if any of the insurance or upkeep is they may have rules over who they can rent to. I.e., only to people with good credit and/or whose gross monthly income is more than 3x the rent (and they may not accept your poker income as legit for this type of check). If you can afford to front 6 months' or a 1 year's worth of rent most places probably will drop the worries, but some may not. But I'm sure if you are persistant you'll be able to figure it out. Worse comes to worse rent a cheaper apartment for 6 months and build up your credit/renting history. Oh, the other thing that might work to try, if possible, is to have your parents cosign the lease with you. If your parents are on the hook for the rent then places may be more willing to take you.
