Questions about blogspot

Hey,

I had a few questions regarding setting up a blog and getting advertising revenue.

I'm obviously not expecting much, but I'd like to start a blog as way to keep track of what's going on in poker for myself but I just had a few questions.

How can you add advertisement urls to blogspot?

I tried to add a counter, but the url wasn't being accepted by blogspot.

Other than adsense, is there any other advertisements I should try and get?

I see that some blogspot blogs come up under google searches, how do they get higher rankings, from more posts?

Would I be better off getting a domain and my own webpage url than using blogspot?

good question...I wanna do the same...but wonder how you add some links in a blog to sell stuff...amazon books or other products in the text links etc.

be interesting if you get any help or will they keep secrets?

By advertisement urls.. i'm assuming you mean adsense? In which case you just use blogspot to apply for adsense. Almost guaranteed to be approved for an adsense account that way. If you are referring to affiliate linking you just sign up for affiliate programs and slip the links in.

One of the best free tools available is google analytics. http://analytics.google.com It's easy to do, you sign up for a google account, they give you a bit of code, you put it at the end of your template (right before the /body tag) and google checks and verifys it and away you go. I believe it updates once a day.

If it's a poker blog, use casino programs, poker programs rather than adsense imo. Keep in mind google does not want their ads displayed on "Gambling or casino-related content"

SEO Techniques (Search engine optimization), quality posts, people linking to their site, lots of content.

If you're taking this project seriously yes. But by these questions you've asked I honestly can't see the blog paying for itself (domain + hosting) until you do a lot more research.

This made me think a bit. Would there be any interest in a 10 day blog course done through email, free of course. Mainly targeting people still looking to making that first 1$?

If I could get at least 10 interested people I'd start writing it up and build a list.

Okay I got quite a few pm's interested in this. Keep in mind I don't need your emails as you'll be double opt'ing (you enter email, then click confirmation) to a list. This is to avoid any spam complaints.

I'll start working on the course today plan is to launch in two or three days. Let me know if you guys have any questions or comments.
