Flop: 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($6, 3 players) SB bets $6, BB folds, Hero raises to $16, SB raises all-in $40.45 I find myself in this situation from time to time and can always make equal arguments for calling and folding. On the one hand I hate puting a lot of money in with just one pair and on the other hand I know that a lot of donks love top pair. In general how should I play hands like TPTK, TPGK, and overpairs? Heres the most recent decision I had to make on this subject. |

hmm you may want to consider calling the flop instead of raising the flop.
overpairs are made to win medium sized pots, generally. when u raise the flop with an overpair u risk being put in the situation like this hand, or u might give up value to someone who has perhaps AJ. calling encourages him to bet again on the turn which u can call for value. in general if u raised preflop and are called behind u, and u flop TPTK/TPGK, u should check the flop and call bets. u have a vulnerable hand and u want to keep the pot size manageable. if u raise preflop with an overpair and are called behind u should bet the flop. if someone bets into u on the flop u should consider calling unless u are sure the better is a donk who will overplay his top pair. |
