Default Fold trips on this flop? 72s in BB 3/6 Live

There is no small blind. Live 3/6 game at the Hustler. Reads are pretty solid. CO is a tight youngin. Pretty narrow preflop standards, prolly 20% VP$IP or so. He could easily bet this flop with 2 overs. Button is loose (maybe 40% VP$IP). He plays paint cards with raggy kickers, 2 gap off-suit connectors, etc. Standard loose player. Not exactly passive though, I've seen him raise a number of hands post-flop, but I do not have a strong read on his raising standards.

3/6 Live at the Hustler, 9 Players
Preflop: Hero is dealt 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in the Big Blind
2 calls, 4 folds, CO calls, Button calls, Hero checks

Flop 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 players, 5 SB)
Hero checks (with the intention of raising), 2 checks, CO bets, Button raises, Hero...

I think a flop check-raise is good only if you are sure someone will bet the flop. I would usually bet out at the flop.

As played, I think you should 3-bet the flop and go from there. I think a fold would be very bad play here.

Folding would be rediculously bad. You should seriously go and reread your favorite poker book for even thinking this. Seriously.

And you should usually lead the flop.

bet/3bet the flop or check 3 bet, folding or cold calling shouldnt enter into this. You need to put the last bet in on this flop b/c you are OOP and button would be very likely to take a free card if he were drawing and both of you called the flop.

How can you even think about folding?

Button would raise with an 8, an overpair, flush draw, OESD, etc. CO could be betting with the same. You're very likely ahead at this point. Increase the wager.

and in case it wasn't clear yet: bet the flop! This is a horrible board to try for a check raise, there's a good chance it will be checked around. There's tons of scary draws. Bet!

I'd like to join the "Fold? Are you mad?!" gang.

Betting the flop makes sense for three reasons - you're probably winning, it may get checked round (giving your opponents a free card on a dangerous board) and a c/r screams trips in the bb (which makes it easier for your opponents to decide whether or not to call or raise you later on).

You should 3-bet the flop anyway, if you can, which will also suggest you've hit trips, but at least you've got more money into a pot you should win.
