Default Job interview - What do these ratings mean?

So I was at a job interview yesterday, and the interviewer had me sitting in the same semi-circle of a round table as he was, so we were like 4-5 feet away.

I could see on the pad he was writing on that he had like 10 rows of numbers, 1 through 5, and every time I answered a question he circled a number. This was really distracting just because I have no idea what the scale was. I was getting a lot of '2's so that means I'm either pretty good or almost awful.

I will leave out my thoughts on the interview so I don't skew the results. Based on your experience:

I don't think you are getting a callback.

Why would you want to work for a guy who doesn't seem to be able to conduct a proper interview? How hard is it to ask the typical battery of interview questions and then fill out the interview form immediately after the interview?

FWIW- In most companies that I have worked for, 1 is the highest rating.

If you made it into the room I doubt that you're getting the 2nd to worst rating on everything. Grade inflation and all, most interviewees will get 2nd highest rating on most things.

No 1's is bad news though. The good news is that the people with 1's will get a zillion job offers, and this place may eventually work their way down the list to you.

4_2,

Who said he's working for the guy doing the interview? It could be just some overworked dude who wants to get back to his real job, and has the balls to fill out the form right in front of the candidate.

Unless the interviewer was an HR type, why would anyone volunteer to interview someone that they will not being working for or with them in some capacity?

Job interviews are a 2-way street. Most good companies will not let their B and C-players interview candidates. I would not take a job with a company if I felt the guys interviewing me were:

1) Uninterested in the interview,
2) Idiots,
3) Not in the area where I will be working or
4) Any combo of the above.

Erm, why didn't you ask him? That's what I'd do. I'd also offer improvements if 2 was good but 1 was great and he just marked a 2 :]

I would see this as really nosey and rude and a bad idea, unless he was making it clear that he wanted me to see what he was writing.

Nosy? It's just natural curiosity. If he wanted to hide it, he would've done a better job. I'd rather joke with my interviewer anyway and have a good atmosphere. Seems to me it just indicates confidence.
