I've been at table for ~40 hands. I've shown down AA and have won like 3 other pots preflop. No read on BB.
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver) Hero ($509.90) BB ($404.50) UTG ($96) MP ($42.15) Button ($414.90) Preflop: Hero is SB with Q ![]() ![]() 3 folds, Hero raises to $16, BB raises to $48, Hero ? How do you proceed from here? What's the best hand you fold to BB's raise? |

You are never going to win a big pot here without flopping a monster.
I see regulars call my blind battle 3-bets here with hands like KQs and AQo fairly often, and they outflop me sometimes and win small pots, but when we play big pots I have those hands dominated. So, I pitch this here with no read. This is probably the best hand I fold. |

Fold. I might even fold AK with no history but im very tight when OOP, although sb vs bb changes that a bit.

Anyone like a 4 bet AI? Which pocket pairs do you continue with? TT+?

I like 4 betting with any of the weaker hands here over calling but I like some history before making this play with AQ. AK on the other hand seems ok.
Pairs are tough to continue with too, im not really sure what id play |

I'm probably 4 betting this. Definitely not folding in a blind battle

I feel like 4 betting here is probably the best line providing that you do the same with big pairs.
edit: obviously not always some of the time |

You left out the most important part of the history. How many times has it been folded to you and villain in the blinds, and what happened?
In general though, I would call here in most situation. If you had a few blind battles before and this is your first time raising, AND if BB is an uber-nit, then I would consider folding. Otherwise I usually call here. AQo is just too strong a hand to fold heads up at 2:1, even OOP. I don't like 4-betting because of stack sizes. If you 4-bet to 140ish, you will have a tough decision whether he pushes or calls. I think pushing yourself sucks because he has AK too often and rarely folds. Without reads or history I guess I might fold ATo, but I usually call AJo. I call any pair and most strong drawing hands. I probably call KQo but not KJo. P.S. Folding AKo here would be insane, unless Hero sucks post-flop or either Hero or Villain have uber-nit images. |
