No deals at Bally\'s MTT?
I am planning a trip to Vegas in a couple weeks and did pretty well at the Bally's MTT the last time I was in town. This is the one with an insanely fast blind structure and very top-heavy payouts.
Looking at AVP, I saw the following notice about their tournaments: "There will be no deals. The tournament will be a process of elimination and will be played down to one final winner. Last updated: 2006-08-05" Can anyone confirm whether this is true? When I was there in June, I played in 3 daily tourneys and each one ended in a deal. The extremely poor deal making skills of most players is a hubge source of +EV, and I will probably play elsewhere if I can't make a deal there. Last time, I locked up second place money ($750), in a 6 way chop, when I had 30% of the total chips. I successfully argued that 30% of the chips means I get 30% of the total prize pool. Someone else agreed to take the W-2G. |

Ick. Even Mirage finally figured out the "no deals" policy sucked.

They allow chopping, but any w2G's will reflect the original pay schedule.

Weird, because as recently as a couple weeks ago Paris allowed chopping, and I thought they were both run by the same person.

[/ QUOTE ] I ended up chopping a cheapo at Aladdin on my last trip and asked the floor if we would get W2Gs after the tourny. He said since they pay you in chips and not cash they do not give them to you. I wonder why more places havnt adopted this approach. |

It simply isn't true. Whether a W2G is issued has nothing to do with whether you are paid in chips or cash. |

Re: No deals at Bally\'s MTT?
Far as I know it's only Harrah's that does this.
Harrah's floors claim to do the W2G thing because when they bought Binion's they inherited the IRS agreement that came with it which requires this. Not sure I buy that, though. But anytime a Harrah's floor-person tells this tale, they also add "and I'll bet you within 6mo every casino is doing W2G's because it's required by regulations and they're breaking the law by not doing it". Well, they've been saying that for about 12mo so they woulda lost their bets. No reasonable person can read the regs and come to the conclusion W2G's are required in any Vegas daily MTT. What paying giant tourney wins in chips does is avoid the cash transaction paperwork (or postpone it). The poker guys can hand you $20K in chips and shake your hand and send you on your way. It's the cage that has to do the CTR when you convert the chips to cash. |
