One more Republican down. However, we should remember that people said the reason he pushed UIGEA was because he wanted to suck up to Christians to make a Presidential run. Looks like those people were wrong. So essentially, the reason he pushed UIGEA was because he is a Christian conservative.

That may be true, although I'm not sure, I do think he was intending to run a couple months ago. However, I believe the election results were much worse than Republicans anticipated, which may have contributed to his decision. Also, my understanding was that he did it so that Leach would campaign for him heavily in Iowa. Once Leach lost his House race, that kinda killed that plan. I do think you may be right and he just wanted to pass this on his own, but I also think there's a decent possibility that several events over the last couple months led him to change his mind.

If this is true, my country is far stupider than I originally thought.

As if the Shiavo mess wasn't enough, theres the poker ban, insider trading. Truly a douchebag amongst douchebags.

Here is another story (AP), that talks more about his ethics problems.

Good. Frist winning in 08 was my worst case scenario. I'd rather a Dem win, but can live w/ McCain or Giuliani.
