Help! How to play AK vs. 1 raiser when you miss the flop?
I can not figure out how to play AK from the blinds and I always seem to loose $ to the stealers in late position In loose aggressive games vs. opponents who bet and call with nothing, is the best move just to ck call in the blind & fold when you miss the flop? or 3 bet it and play aggressive? What is the best way to play it? Situations such as the following always come up: Playing 2/4 limit: loose game, loose player (who alwasy bets and calls with nothing and anything) raises from button, I decide to 3 bet, we see the flop head up. I miss flop but lead out. This is what seems to happen: villian almost always calls flop bet and either: a) has a pair and it holds up b) has nothing but makes something on turn or river If I ck the flop after 3 betting, they always try to steal. How can AK be played from the blind vs. late pos. raisers? |

Re: Help! How to play AK vs. 1 raiser when you miss the flop?
You are being way too results oriented. when you say "a) has a pair and it holds up
b) has nothing but makes something on turn or river" Yes, you should always be 3-betting AK to a late position raiser, moreso becuase they are "loose". Lead out even if you miss the flop, after that, its all about flop texture and reads on opponent. |

I played this hand while reading your post. My opponent called down with T9.
AK is a good starting hand, but you can't expect to win with it all the time. I think it is alright to vary your play. I think you played it well enough. You had the lead from the start. Its a drawy board (possibly too drawy) but i would play it as you did. |

Re: Help! How to play AK vs. 1 raiser when you miss the flop?
i think dan is right on here.in a loose game im reraising with ak from the BB , especially if the raise comes from LP. you have the best hand more than not. i big % of your profits in these games comes from isolating loose opponants. get your money in there preflop with the best hand, dont worry about the monsters under the bed and evaluate the flop.

Re: Help! How to play AK vs. 1 raiser when you miss the flop?
Keep in mind the flop bet w/ AK is frequently a value bet not a continuation one. As a posted mentioned before its all about the texture of the board after that.
