Girl Can't Name All the Continents?!

So I'm sitting at a booth in a cafeteria at my college reading a book when I overhear a group at the next trying to name all the continents. She got stumped by Europe and had trouble with Asia. Now she tried to justify to her friends that she was not stupid by claiming to get straight A's. How does anyone make it into college without knowing this? What kind of sad state is education in if a 19 year old can't remember these seven names?

Any other stories of overhearing someone say stupid things, OOT?

Yeah it's crazy what some people don't know. I read something that stated over 30% of americans think Alaska is a country. But then again 65% of statistics are made up so who knows if that was true or not.

While I certainly think it's weird, it's almost completely unnecessary to know, especially for getting into college.

Man, there are people getting into college who read at a third grade level. Knowing 5 of the continents makes you valedictorian at some schools.

i really don;t think it's that outrageous - it's just memorization - like knowing the 7 dwarfs or something.

It should be a necessity to know. That way we can weed out most of the morons.

I heard this one in the student union last year from some dumb girl

"Hitler, thats world war one right?"

I almost fell out of my chair. Its incredible how people can be so stupid and still make good grades. Goes to show what grades are worth

She got a college scolarship out of high school.

My sister once told me and my whole family something that I will never forget. She was a big fan of chicken wings and would routinly go out on days when they were cheap and get as many as she could eat. but all of a sudden one day she tells us shes' never eating chicken wings again. My dad askes her why, and she tells him what she has "learned" about how they can be sold for 10c a pop(pre-avian flu pricing I suppose) she said they now have mutant chickens with 12 wings growing all over thier bodies, and they are harvested and sold by the thousands that way. we all started crying and she didn't understand what was so funny. she was 22 at the time. some people are just dumb...
