Problem with Sending Comcast Email when using DSL
I recently added a DSL (Yahoo/SBC) line as a backup to my Cable internet (Comcast). I still use Comcast for my email accounts and use Outlook Express. I'm still waiting for my dual WAN router to use both together.
Anyway, in testing out the DSL line I noticed that I can receive, but not send email through Outlook on my Comcast email accounts (when connected only through the DSL). Is this normal? Is there a setting I have to change to do this? Thanks. |

Re: Problem with Sending Comcast Email when using DSL
the nature of the way email was designed generally forbids sending outgoing email from one isps connection, using another isps email server. get smtp email server from your new dsl isp, and drop it in the place of your cable modem providers smtp address. the other option if you hate going back and forth is finding/paying for an outgoing mail server that handles connections from any isp. example: http://www.smtp.com/
(i have no idea of the quality of that website, just found it on google). |

Re: Problem with Sending Comcast Email when using DSL
You could setup another email account in outlook with the SMTP settings for your DSL line. While you are on DSL, use that account.

Re: Problem with Sending Comcast Email when using DSL
Web-based email? Bleurgh.
Windows 2000, 2003 & XP pro have a built-in SMTP server you can use for your outgoing mail, which then delivers directly to the recipients' mail servers. http://www.resortdata.com/Customers/...al/KC00003.htm explains how to configure this, then just set Outlook to use 127.0.0.1 as the outgoing mail server. |

Re: Problem with Sending Comcast Email when using DSL
The recipients mail server might reject these emails unless they can do a reverse DNS lookup on the SMTP server address.
Years ago, this was practical. Spammers have caused these anonymous SMTP servers to be less usefull. |

Re: Problem with Sending Comcast Email when using DSL
Well, depends on your circumstances. Any half-decent ISP will set up rDNS for you, but yes, not suitable for everyone.
