Default multitabling and variance

I think I read somewhere that multitabling reduces variance. True? If so, how and why?

it doesn't reduce it, you just play games at a faster rate so the downswings (upswings too) go by faster. a 500 game break even streak takes half as long to end 8-tabling than it does 4-tabling.

I'd rather say it increases it.

Most people get lower ROI while multitabling than, say, 2tabling. Lower ROI = more variance.

I think this is what you meant to say.

Unless you mean that more tables increases your hourly variance, which is true. It's also true that the outliers of variance occur more often because you are playing more, and the swings are around for less total time (not tournaments).

It reduces time unit vs. time unit variance.

If we have 4 hours a night to play and I play 3600 SnGs in a month (8 tabling) and you play 400 in a month (1 tabling) who is going to have more variance?

I don't think this is entirely true either. It simply raises the expected value so high that you have to have a much more extreme stretch of variance to end up negative.

Extrapolate it.

If I play 8,000,000 SnGs in the same period of time you play 8 who will have higher variance for that time unit?
