LA or Vegas for X-mas Poker Trip
I plan on doing a Poker trip during X-Mas (like the 23rd or so till the 28th or so) and want to go to either Vegas or LA. Does anyone have any suggestions on which area has the best deals (or whch websites have them) and/or any other suggestions for warmer destinations within a 5 hour flight from the east coast (I am in Toronto).
Thanks for any help. |

Re: LA or Vegas for X-mas Poker Trip
Best deal in LA will be Commerce Casino, connected to Crowne Plaza. $89 weekends and $109 weekdays (poker rate) and all the poker you could ever want.
Vegas has a plethora of good deals during that period, as it is the slowest period of the year in Vegas (until about the 28-29 when it is the busiest). Mid limit poker will be tougher to find in Vegas, though. There is much more consistent mid limit action in LA, but Vegas has everything else. I recommend Vegas, but I am biased. Why spend christmas in Los Angeles when you can be in Vegas? Seems like a no brainer to me. I moved here from LA for a reason. |

Re: LA or Vegas for X-mas Poker Trip
Thanks for the reply. I did read the thread about mid limit being dead in Vegas and I do want to play a 20-40 game (or thereabouts), so I guess I am presented with a bit of a quandry. How is the best way to go about finding good deals for Vegas hotels? I thought www.allvegas.com was the go to site but it didn't look like much when I went there... Any other suggestions on accomodation searching for a Vegas trip?

Pick a hotel based on location, poker room, price, etc. Then visit the hotel's web site directly to book it, normally, since hotels only require a one-day upfront charge on your credit card and you can cancel trivially long as it's like 24 hours or more prior. Airlines work the same way. www.orbitz.com, or equivalent, find the flights you like, then normally book directly through the airline. Throw in a visit to www.iflyswa.com since Southwest isn't included in Orbitz/Expedia/Travelocity/etc searches (this probably doesn't apply to Canadian travelers unless maybe you're willing to drive across the border to catch a Southwest flight). Contrary to popular opinion, mid-limit hold-em is not *DEAD* in Vegas. It's just sick. You will be able to find a 15/30, 20/40, 30/60 sorta game at one of Bellagio/Wynn/Mirage long as you don't go looking at 11am on a Tuesday (and even then you might). |

Re: LA or Vegas for X-mas Poker Trip
Hey Bav - Thanks for your reply.
Considering the replies I got, and the lack of any others, I must have asked a pretty dumb question... I guess my thinking was there might be a better options for Vegas specific travel than the standard ones out there (hotels.com, priceline.com etc...). Seeing as there are none, I will definitely go that route. Now for some research on the best houses for comps! |

Since you're flying from Canada I found a great deal from the WestJet Vacations website for air and hotel for the weekend before Christmas.

Now that you consider a fellow 2p2'er a fish (as compared to the current lineup), I have a lot of faith in finding easy games BTW - the site I was looking for was www.allvegaspoker.com - so going to www.allvegas.com was what caused my confusion! |

[/ QUOTE ] While over at www.allvegaspoker.com be sure to check out the individual poker room threads in the discussion forum as well, as there is info on regular spreads and notes on typical action (I mod there). |
