Default Book recommendations - what are you reading?

I'm anticipating a long weekend with the wife's family, and would like to pick up something new to read. What are you reading these days that you'd recommend?

My last read was The Kite Runner, based on the recommendations of folks here. I really liked it.

I know there are book threads in the archives, but work is slow and I'm bored, so posting is more fun.

And you should always judge a book by it's cover!

Blood Letting and Miraculous Cures - Vincent Lam

Am about 4/5ths through. Nice little book about the experience of medical students/residents. Won the Giller prize this year. It's very good.

Next on my list. Right after every book written about Star Wars, Star Trek, and all other shows based on someone elses imagination.

I am currently reading Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. The prose is amazing, he flows thoughts and sentences together so fluid, the whole thing is poetry but very nasty things happen. If Whitman were alive today writing westerns it would probably come out something like this.

Seems like dejavu, the last person to post a thread like this had just read the kite runner too (which is good of course).

I'm reading (rereading actually) the Adrian Mole series. They're good and amusing if you're a sarcastic douche like I am.
