how safe is AHK?
I was just curious how safe it is to run the AHK scripts I find on this board and overcards? It seems like if they wanted to, an AHK author could bury some malicious code in a script. Is this a legitimate concern?
Should we have some kind of script review process from a trusted person or persons and a centralized release system? Maybe that's what overcards already is? |

Re: how safe is AHK?
Kind of hard to bury anything when the code is there for all to read, no?

Re: how safe is AHK?
I know I can't make sense of the codes for the AHK scripts I use, but I'm sure those with knowledge would inform the masses if someone is trying to hurt people.

Re: how safe is AHK?
I've read thru many of their scripts and never found a hint of a problem.
And never expect to - it's open SOURCE! It only takes one AHK knowledgeable person (of which there are plenty around, and AHK is fairly easy to read) to spot a nasty. There aren't many AHK code posters on these boards (2+2 and Overcards), and they're all wonderfully helpful, and have mana through the roof. If you find some obscure AHK code that you're worried about, post it here and ask for it to be reviewed. And relax. |
