Default Gambling for the youth....

Hey everyone. thru a school project ive had some thoughts come to mind, and i was wondering what ppl thought of them. first of all, it all started in one of my business classes. its a group project where each group has to come up with a company, write up a basic business plan, and then come up with a functional website (very easy, very basic, very standard)

our group decided to do customized gambling accessories. (mind you, this is all hypothetical business stuff, we dont actually open this business up). we wrote our business plan, and then had to present it in front of the class (about 26 kids, 50/50 male/female). after a group presents, there is an open floor where other groups can ask questions. the second we finished, we got flamed. like every single female starts flippin out sayyin it is ppl like us who are creating gambling addictions. no guys chimed in. now...one girl asked us the question "would your company be selling cards/chips/dice to kids, say ages 10-14". besides this being a dumb question because we are selling online and we would only sell to 18+ with a credit card...it got me thinking...

obv when ur growing up, ur brain starts to process things as wrong and right. also learns to control you, and control things you do. it also limits what you do as u learn restraint. so i was wondering what people thought of gambling in terms of children growing up

I personally look at it this way...Gambling is a lot like alcohol. both can b fun if limited, and taken in proportion. both have consequences, not just for the person taking/doing them, but also others (friends, family...). both, are a taboo in our society. i feel not enough parents teach their kids about alcohol, and dont talk to their kids about it. the kids are then only taught that its wrong to drink (which obv makes them want to drink more). and i believe that is why shelterd kids go away their first week of college, and end up in the hospital for an alky overdose

i think gambling is the same way. kids are not taught at a young age anything about it. its not spoken about at all. i personally think a lot of good things could come from teachin kids about gambling. besides just the math and game theory that arises from it (making kids more logical in thought process, and giving them an advantage in terms of mathematicl learning), they should also b taught how to limit it. same as parents who let their kids drink, under their supervision, and teach them limitations

now im not sayyin this is perfect, or that kids should even be allowed to gamble ina casino (or even let near a casino, lol). im just sayyin i think if kids are taught about gambling, limitations on gambling, then there will b less of a chance of an addiction later in life...because they will understand restraint.

anyone have any thoughts?

Anyone whose ethical threshhold was surpassed simply because you were selling gambling accessories is wasting their time in a business course.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking in your post (I read it twice), but it outlines the core problem that most parents aren't qualified to raise children.

I believe there should be rigerous studies and mandatory courses for people to take in order to allow them to raise children. Of course there would be several problems that would come up based on the findings here, and I'm not about to nominate myself to design these courses and guidelines, but our current free-for-all system is not working.

I guess i wasnt rly asking for anything specific when i wrote my OP. just wanted to present my thought process, and see what ppl thought about it, and just start a convo. i like hearing other peoples thoughts on stuff like this, and hope that i can learn something new, or think about something in a new light. and who knows, maybe somebody will walk away with a new thought after they read the thread

Personaly learning how to play poker well changed my outlook on a whole lot of things and made me a happier person, I somehow doubt though that this kind of mentality could be institutionalized on any seriously level. On a sidenote, is it a bad thing that when I approach a girl I think, hmm this ones probably 2:1 against.
