I see this all the time. An aggressive player is betting OOP and is gets called down. The river gets checks through and the aggressive player doesn't show his cards. He instead waits for the caller to show first and then mucks his hand. Do I have the right to see his hand? Can I ask the dealer to show it to the table? Also, what if the aggressive player bets and is called? He then waits for the caller to show and then mucks. I always want to see the card

If you're in the hand with him, don't show your hand until he does. If you're not in the hand, keep your mouth shut.

[/ QUOTE ] QFT In almost all casinos that I know of, you have a right to request to see any of the player's hand if they go to showdown regardless of if you're in the hand or not. Be aware, however, that this is considered bad poker etiquette. If you do it every once in a long time, no problem, but don't start doing it constantly as you will be considered an ass. Colima420 |

On the river, if it's checked around, the first person who acted that round also shows first. Doesn't matter who was the aggressor on the turn. However, it's encouraged in Robert's to simply table your hand if you feel yours is best. Who cares who sees or who goes first?

It is annoying and slows down the game. If there is a player doing it and I my turn is after them, then I'll wait for them to muck or table their hand. It is funny when they get huffy about it or only show one card, I'll still wait and look to the dealer to get them to act. On the other hand, if no one in the hand is pulling this crap and I act last, then I'll just turn my hand over instead of waiting my turn.

Under what circumstances are you not allowed to see opponents hand at showdown?

Recently I asked a floor what their call was on this situation. The floor explained their policy:
A player that has played to the river can ask to see a hand that has been mucked; however, it is still live at that point. So if the player did muck a winner, the pot will be shipped to that person. Not saying that happens much, but it could and this may keep people from asking all the time and slowing the game down. |

Wooops! Forgot it was I asked a floor at Commerce casino, I know it is different everywhere, but that was the first time I heard they would still be live and it was at Commerce.

Commerce is a big mess when it comes to the IWTSTH rule, as ANYONE, involved in the hand or not, can request to see all cards still in at showdown (and many request it on EVERY hand).
Also, in many houses (especially in Vegas), the hand being turned up by the dealer, upon request is not live (Ballys is one place where I have seen this first hand, and it turned out that the dead hand would have been a winner had the player not mucked it). |
