Hey guys, I found an item to buy from amazon but it aint worth $25 for free shipping so i figure i might as well order another poker book to get me up there.......so if you had to choose one book....for primarily no limit cash games...what would it be? the classic doyle brunson super system?? or something else?? and why??? I have SSHE and WLLH pertaining to poker....both limit books...and just recently switched back to NL so i am loookin for the guidance here to continue on the NL path............thanks.

I'd have to go with NLHT&P. It will help all areas of your NL game and get you thinkng like a NL player should.

Harrington on holdem is by far the most well thought out NLHE book and volume three is a great workbook. Having reread supersystem I find Doyle's NLHE section very weak. Here's a nice tidbit " When a big pot's played I 've usually got the worst hand. I'd say over 50% of the time when all the money goes in I've got the worst hand." Insane. Stop calling this book the "bible of holdem".

you need to read the book again because you obviously didn't understand it. also, "weak" is the worst possible choice of words you could use to describe the NLHE section.

best NLH book for a beginner: Harrington on Hold 'Em vol 1
best NLH book for an advanced player: No Limit Hold 'Em Theory and Practice

This will probably change next year with the flurry of no-limit cash game books coming out (Negreanu, Harrington, Miller)

Out of context quotes usually don't make sense.

I wouldn't say it is weak, just basic though. It's just "here's how I'd play this hand if... and then Doyle with give about 3 situations. No real thinking required. Just a here's how I play. But I wouldn't recommend just going to the table and saying "Well here's what Doyle said to do in this situation" in every situation. A lot of the time his advice is sound, but if you read NLHETP it will take you to the next level of thinking like you should and what should ultimately be your action based on all the factors you've been thinking about. I'd say both books are musts, but since NLHETP is only for No Limit, I'd recommend it over Super System. I thought Super System was awesome the first time I read it, but then went and bought NLHETP and realized Doyle didn't even begin to cover a quarter of what he could have.

Please explain what it is he doesn't understand. You are being a jerk by putting people down like that and not explaining why in your expert opinion he doesn't understand. If you couldn't be bothered to explain then don't post.
