Date leaves a terrible tip.... do I add to it?
So,
I've been on a few dates with this girl, and have treated her to some food, drinks, etc. Tonight she took me out and wanted to cover the tab to even things out, so I accepted. We stopped by a tapas place, and had a few sangrias, total bill wasn't too much - around $55 or so. She leaves a $5 tip on the credit card, and we got excellent service. Do you - (a) let it go - try not to insult her (b) throw a few bucks on the table and risk calling her a cheapass note that option (c) slipping a few bucks to the waitress on the side, would be quite difficult, because we were right by the front door and any action to leave an additional tip would be pretty obvious. Thoughts? |

The standard move is to go back in because you forgot something.

Don't even have to read beyond the subject line to know the answer is yes.

if you really can't leave a tip. You are better off letting it slide for now. But you should really go out of your way to drop another tip somehow. Just say you have to run to the bathroom, you'll meet her outside/at the car etc...

Edit: Basically, I wouldn't make up anything like that. I'd definitely add to the tip, trying not to be noticed. If she notices and has a problem with it, I'd maybe say I like to add a little extra to the tips when someone treats me for dinner. |

Yes, but she obviously can't know.

Now I did read it and edfurlong is right. Make an excuse and get back in there.
And consider this something that does not work in her favor. |

Re: Date leaves a terrible tip.... do I add to it?
Nah, just leave. Forget it. She screwed up, and it's points against her. The tip should be $10, so "another few bucks" is actually $5, if you want to be kosher, and dropping another five-spot is something she may catch and then it's a whole new nest of bees. Just forget it and don't ruin a date -- and a girl's pride -- over five friggin' bucks. The server will get over it in a few years after some therapy.
Next time you go to that restaurant without her (or with her, if you're paying), just overtip by $5. |

Why do anything? Assuming you want to bang this girl, do you really want to risk that so your server can get a couple more dollars tip? I would just make a mental note that she is a bad tipper and proceed with the weiner insertion.

Re: Date leaves a terrible tip.... do I add to it?
I've noticed a lot of people in OOT go out of their way to prove what great tippers they are. This isn't something to pat yourself on the back for. It should be standard, and most of us who aren't degenerate pricks are good tippers. It's like fathers who brag about being "great dads" when they simply do their job. Listen, folks, performing to the normal standards of society doesn't merit your little touchdown dances. Stop bragging about how generous you are and pay attention to the bigger picture.
