Default Locked threads -- no explanation??

I'm curious why a thread i started was locked? Is it normal practice to lock a thread without explanation?

FWIW, I would have locked your thread without wasting my time to add an explanation.

There are some duplicate threads started where it is obvious that if someone wants to add to the ongoing discussion, they use the original thread which is presumably already in the appropriate forum for such discussion.

What would be the point in there being two similar threads?
