If it went down as the story said, that kid is going to get a lot of money. He's an idiot for not just doing what he's told, but still tazing him is a little much. It's not like he committed a crime. Those cops almost started a riot the way they handled it. If he didn't want to get up, the police should have just left him cuffed on the ground until he calmed down. I don't see the pressing need to drag him from the building kicking and screaming. Telling people they're going to taze them too is retarded. That would have made the situation much worse quickly with 40+ students standing around and a few officers (with guns).

According to a UCLA police sergeant, the student was identified as Mostafa Tabatabainejad of Los Angeles. [/ QUOTE ] That does not bode well for the cop's case. |

I definitely find this video disturbing although the futility of liberals always gives me a laugh (kid gets tasered, kid says 'heres your patriot act' kid gets tasered again, cops win.)
I agree the kid should have just stood up. However, there was no threat of danger to the officers or other students in the area and force should not be used for compliance but to protect the safety of the officers. I wonder what the relevant statutes say about the "rules of engagement" are for officers of the law, if anyone is in law school or is practicing in a relevant field I would appreciate a summary or a link (if not I will try to come up with one myself later) What the cops are legally allowed to do and what is morally correct are obviously two seperate questions and I could not imagine many moral codes that excuse the officers tasing someone who is already under their custody. |

This is just another situation where the cops are going to get all the blame, but the whole situation would've never happened if the kid wasn't acting like a little self-important prick.

I agree that the kid was probably acting a bit stubborn, and looking to "make a statement", as I've heard people say. But I think tasing someone multiple times in front of the student body when they had already determined that he had no weapon and was on the ground, is completely unnecessary. Not only that, it seems pretty apparent to me that these cops were on a major power trip as they started threatening to taser other students, including one who asked for their names and badge numbers.
On a kind of funnier note, there's a facebook group for this too. ----- Name: I forgot my BruinCard.. please don't TASER me Type: Internet & Technology - Gadgets Description: Don't you hate it when you forget to bring your BruinCard to Powell Library... and the CSO or UCPD end up zapping you like five times with a stun gun? This group is for everyone who is tired of gettin' tasered in Powell. Feel free to share any of your favorite alternative "Taser-free" study areas. ----- Lol, this cracked me up for some reason. |
