Default New Setup- Problem with Screen Resolution

Hi, I just got a new setup. It's working okay so far, I am just having a slight problem...

I got my second monitor hooked up, but I can't get the main one to go to teh 1600 x 1200 resolution (this is a 20 in Dell regular, not widescreen). Whenever I set it up to do so on the properties menu, screen goes dark, and I get this message " out of range signal cannot display this video mode change computer range signal to 1200 x 1600 @ 60 Hz" . I've looked into the properties, and it is at 60 Hz. Currently, the highest resolution I can get it to go 1200 x 1024.

I have a second monitor hooked up, and it is displaying at 1600 x 1200... which makes for a weird dynamic obviously haha. If anyone can help me fix this, it might not be too hard, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

If you only have the main monitor hooked up, can you get 1600x1200 to work?

Try each monitor individually at 1600x1200, and also what video card do you have?

I have a 256MB ATI Radeon X1300 Pro video card. When only the main monitor is hooked up, it still will not go to 1600 x 1200 resolution.

1. Check your monitor supports 1600x1200 (if it is 20" non-widescreen, it should).
2. Check that your monitor is detected properly (not as some sort of Default monitor). The system might "think" you have some a smaller display (due to misconfuguration or system errors) and prevent you from using the higher resolutions.

It does support 1600 x 1200. There is a CD with it for troubleshooting I think. I can't find anything on it. It will only display 1200 x 1024 as the maximum for some reason.... the covering/plastic over it in the packaging said 1600 x 1200, so it obviously supports it. I'm so freakin confused.
