Anyone know a good dentist in Vegas?
Some friends of mine are out there now, and one is having some dental problems. She got a cap put on last week, and now thinks it's infected. Obviously, they want to see someone ASAP, as this is screwing up their vacation.
Anyone have a recommendation? |

So far I've found a crappy dentist and a crappy eye doctor. I'm looking to upgrade. Frankly, I'm starting to wonder if there are any good doctors out here. Good skilled labor is pretty rare in my experience in Vegas. I asked around work for a doctor and dentist recommendation. Nobody could give me one. |

Re: Anyone know a good dentist in Vegas?
Wow. I was going to chime in with a "me too". I've been here two years and have so far avoided visiting a regular doc or dentist.
I did one visit to an urgent care thingy when I was about 90% sure I had influenza a couple years ago, but the doc claimed it was just some other upper respiratory virus. She found my O2 saturation was down to like 93% so I got dosed with some inhaler, which did help a lot and got the meter up to 99%...suddenly I didn't fell like I was likely to fall over trying to take every step. I liked her--she actually did something that made me feel enormously better right away. And she was hot. |

Dentist: Lamancusa (I hope I have spelling right) Oral Surgeon: Jay Selznick Family Practice: Amy Sparks Internal Med: Matt Barton, Judy Ford Pulmonary: Michael Schlacter ENT Robert Troell Optho: Jon Siems (Lasik or general optho - GREAT guy) Retina: Retinal Consultants of Nevada Anyone need anyone else? |

[/ QUOTE ] Wow, thats a fantastic list! Thanks a lot! The ENT is very good? Do you recommend an internist or a family practitioner for a single male's primary practitioner? What are the best insurance plans to look into for Vegas locals who are self employed? Oddly, this is the most important thread B&M may have seen all month. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] [/ QUOTE ] I can vouch for the ENT (Troell) for any generalist type ENT issue. I am not sure if he has some specialty areas he concentrates on as well. I know him less well that most of the others, admittedly, but my experience with him interacting with myself and patients has been quite positive. There are subspecialists among ENTs, however, just like most speialties, so if I needed some weird tumor scraped off my facial nerve or something I wound look into it more closely. I would go to an internist in the situation you describe. A family practicioner is more well rounded but in your situation of a relatively young male with no kids - an internist would probably be a little better, but like I said it is a very borderline decision. If you were female I would say the family practitioner as they are more likely to do the annual female exam / pap smear and that way you can get one stop shopping so to speak. My wife goes to a family doc and I (if I ever need to go in the future) would go to an internist for instance. As far as insurance, I am self-insured believe it or not and I was with unicare until about 6 months ago when they sold it out to BlueCrossBlueShield. BCBS recently lowered their reimbursements so much that many GP's cannot cover the cost of the visit with their payment, so many GP's are dropping BCBS patients. The big groups like Fremont Medical still take it because they have economy of scale to eek out a small profit. (I think BCBS pays like $47 for an office visit and many GP's have to bring in $200/hr just to break even with all the costs of having an office so they are losing money seeing BCBS patients.). You might want to steer away from BCBS for that reason. Other than that I have no insurance advice, that is the only one I have personal experience with. I am an ER doc so I don't even look at that stuff since we have to see anyone that walks, stumbles, or is otherwise pushed through the door with the knife literally in their back. If there is anything else you need don't hesitate to ask. |
