Default Voice recognition

Does this software/hardware exist yet.

What I mean is can I configure my PC to open my curtians in the morning with an alarm clock or walk in to my bedroom and say "lights on" yet?

You know what would be cool to walk into the living room and say t.v on channel 2.

If so whats the expense?

I would figure it to be very expensive. The software is the least of it probably. Its the construction of the machinery and interfaces that actually do all of these individual things for you that will cost alot. I don't if any of it exsists already, so someone has to create an interface that translate your voice commands into an operation for each appliance. I think it would be easier and probably cheaper to just buy a home system that is designed for such ease of use. Running it through your PC seems a bit odd.

Interfaces to automate your room already exist, I use 100's of them a day at work. All my conference rooms are 100% automated by AMX touch screens. I cant see why it would be too hard to meld that technology with a system that instead of touching a button, you say something.

My cell phone is voice activated for just about everything but the MP3 player....

EDIT: Oh and it is expensive. A typical room costs us about $100,000

newer Apples have built-in voice recognition. you just have to "teach" it. it doesn't work very well with just the internal mic, though.

I found this interesting iteam

It would be great if I could configure my pc to do this and or other this as well.

This would bring my life to the umber laziness yes but cool.

My roomate and I have what we refer to as "man zone" the pinnacle of bachelor pads.

Every thing from big screen entertainment center to beer on tap. We have an awsome set up.

I would like to add interesting things to it such as laying on the couch and say "turn on turtles heat lamp"

Yeah, I knew that specifically designed systems exsist. But running it through your home PC via Voice Recognition would be more expensive, no? "melding" those technologies would be more expensive than just buying a prefabed system.

X10 has some stuff, and if you are really into it you can hack some cool stuff out. Check out i-hacked.com for other projects that might be useful.

you can if you use HAL software with x10/insteon devices (use insteon where possible; built by, and compatible with, x10 but more robust with a better network)
