Matchup: Man vs. Dog
The ultimate battle of the superpredators. Humans are at the top of every food chain, while dog packs can bring down animals as large as bears or even elephants. The contestents are locked in a 20 x 20 room. Only one is coming out alive. It ain't no Pomeranian, either, we're talking about a trained attack dog, and he's hungry. Meanwhile, the man is just an average, full-grown male human.
Contestents: 1) Dog (canis lupus) - trained for attack/kill The dog is a mammal in the order Carnivora. Dogs were domesticated from wolves as recently as 15,000 years, ago or perhaps as early as 100,000 years ago based upon recent genetic fossil and DNA evidence. An attack dog is a dog trained to attack, and possibly kill, other creatures. Dogs such as these are often used as a guard dogs, hunting dogs, or police dogs. (Don't worry if you feel there's a breed of dog better than the ones shown for this battle. For now, just assume that whichever dog you feel is most capable against the human is the one locked in the room, be that pit bull, doberman, or St. Bernard.) Advantages: - extreme speed and agility - strong, sharp teeth - powerful jaws - intelligence and cunning - trained killer 2) Man (hominus sapien) Humans have a highly developed brain capable of abstract reasoning, language and introspection. This, combined with an erect body carriage that frees their upper limbs for manipulating objects, has allowed humans to make greater use of tools than any other species. Technology has allowed humans to colonize all of the continents and adapt to all climates. Within the last few decades, humans have explored Antarctica, the ocean depths, and space, although long-term habitation of these environments is not yet possible. With a population of over six billion, humans are among the most numerous of the large mammals. Most humans (61%) live in Asia. The vast majority of the remainder live in the Americas (14%), Africa (13%) and Europe (12%), with 0.5% in Oceania. Advantages: - agility - strength - ability to attack with all four limbs - extreme intelligence - extreme cunning |

Re: Matchup: Man vs. Dog
If the man was naked, completely without anything to use as a weapon or a tool my money would be on the dog, especially if it was a trained attack dog vs. an average non-martial arts trained human.

Re: Matchup: Man vs. Dog
Size of man and dog are very relevant to this poll, I think. Man over 190 lbs? I take man.

Re: Matchup: Man vs. Dog
Have to figure the dog is 80lbs+ and the man, being average is probably about 175lbs.

Re: Matchup: Man vs. Dog
Naked man gets his ass kicked. We can't beat the dog's teeth without tools.
Humans are superior for their technology, not their hand to hand combat abilities. |

Re: Matchup: Man vs. Dog
That the man is scared hurts him a lot. If he were looking for a fight, a couple of harsh thumbs to the dog's eyes would not be good for Fido.

Re: Matchup: Man vs. Dog
If a dog was actually attacking me, it would do a lot of damage but I am fairly confident I would win.
I wouldn't allow him to get to my neck (not that hard as he only has his jaw as a weapon). Sure he'd tear one of my arms to shreds, but I'd gauge his eyes out and be brutalizing his vulnerable legs and neck. Having opposable thumbs and a ball/socket joint for a shoulder makes all the difference here. |
