splitting gas

Recently I went to atlantic city with my friend and his dad. At the end of the trip, they asked me to pay for half of the gas instead of a third. This obviously isn't about the money since it is so little but what is the standard split?

The standard split is that the "dad" pays 100% out of courtesy.

Does he not have a job that can support it?

Yeah, standard is 1/3, but it's hard to mention that w/o looking like a total nit. I'd probably just pay half.

If I were a Father, I wouldn't take my son and his friend to AC unless I could afford to pay for 100% of the gas. This guy must have no shame.
