2007 Pokerbot World Championship
2007 Pokerbot World Championship (PBWC)
Hello 2+2, My name is Ray Bornert. I will be hosting the first ever Pokerbot World Championship in 2007-Sep on the Carnival Valor out of Miami, FL Here is the Official PBWC forum *link deleted* You can see digital pictures of the actual venue in the "event details - where and when" thread at the link above The PBWC is a live digital event. The entire tournament will take place on a closed LAN inside the Capital Room on the cruise ship in international waters. A laptop is required in order to compete. Both human players and pokerbot players will be accepted as paying entrants. Nobody will be paid to play. Everyone will pay an entry fee. There will be an operators fee. (just like any normal live b&m tourny) This is a live real money b&m tournament in every possible way. I am precluded from competing as well as my family and close friends. We will be using the Poker Professional (PPRO) live digital platform, for which we will be seeking certification in the state of Nevada. The entire PPRO client/server is freely available for public download at the link above. This will give the general public time to understand the overall experience. I expect to make the PPRO communication protocol public knowledge sometime within the next few months which will allow any type of laptop to be used regardless of the chipset and/or operating system. This is the only way to have a legitimate "World" championship. I need to once more re-emphasize that this is a live digital event. You must be physically present. The internet is not involved in anyway insofar as the actual tournament mechanics are concerned. The PBWC event is essentially composed of 12 title tournament events based on the size of the entry fee and the limit type. Code:

FL PL NL ================ $10 -- -- -- $100 -- -- -- $1k -- -- -- $10k -- -- -- ================

It is my sincere desire to have strong b&m players compete in this historical event. And it goes without saying that some of the very best players in the world of Hold'em are 2+2'ers. Thank your for your consideration. Sincerely, Ray Bornert |

Re: 2007 Pokerbot World Championship
It would be pretty cool if you made this Bots-only, and had them play the hands as quickly as they possibly could (no pausing). You could get in a million hands per level.

Re: 2007 Pokerbot World Championship
mark,
the thing you describe deserves consideration in it's own way but not in the context of the pbwc. your hyper-fast event would be better suited for a university math department contest or an acm contest. the pbwc is about human beings including professional pokerbotters. in the context of a televised broadcast, nobody wants to see cold hard computers sitting around playing 1 hand per second - that's about as exciting as watching grass grow. but from a pure academic pov it is an interesting idea. the pbwc is nothing without the human component. ray |

Re: 2007 Pokerbot World Championship
Okay, I am a little slow so I will need a little help.
If I am a successful pokerbot operator and I have a profitable venture, why would I show up at a live event where I could get outed to the poker sites that will shut me down if I am caught? I could understand if a college sponsered a pokerbot from their AI lab, that never played for real money, etc. I think a pokerbot operator would be nuts to show up at your event unless the prize pool is astronomical. Feel free to enlighten, beause I am clueless. |

Re: 2007 Pokerbot World Championship
steam,
that is definitely an issue for a profitable pro botter that is still using online account(s) registered with his real world info. however, i must ask you this: do you think online sites will persecute pbwc entrants? or do you think they'll embrace the event and hold their own qualifiers at their site where the prize is a 7 day cruise to the caribbean and an entry in a $10k title event? which is better business for them? which is better for the players? ray |

Re: 2007 Pokerbot World Championship
Edit: My earlier post was incorrect.
Artifical intelligence groups have a poker bot competition, here's a link: http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~pokert/ Perhaps some of these groups would be interested in playing your tournament. |

Re: 2007 Pokerbot World Championship
iron,
all well and good. that's a perfectly fine endeavor. however, i'm interested in seeing a live b&m tournament where pro human players enter and pro botter players enter - with the full knowledge that both types of competitors can and do play online for real money. that is a television spectator sport type of media worthy event. such an event makes it possible for the top ranked pro competitors to win laptop advertising contracts from the major name brands much like an nba player might get a shoe contract. so while i think acedemic pursuits are fine, i prefer to be involved with the commercial aspects. ray. |

Re: 2007 Pokerbot World Championship
iron,
and we fully expect them to. basically they are waiting for the ppro communication protocol to go public so they can write the client layer they need. if you read the wired mag article of last year, you'll see a quote in there about one of those guys that wants the experience of seeing his bot raise $100k against a human pro. the pbwc will make that possible. ray |

[ QUOTE ]
do you think online sites will persecute pbwc entrants? [/ QUOTE ] I thik they will shut themdown in a heartbeat. You need to go start this thread in the Zoo. Wear your flame retardent underwear because you but will be flamed. They are serious bot hunters in the Zoo. (Zoo=Internet Gambling Forum) I consider pokerbots to be cheaters. |
