Default razz my @$$ :)

i hate the game, i thought it was simple, i only read the little section in ss1, but i lose every single session of this game.
I wonder if i am dumb or unlucky.
because its a low variance game i lean towards dumb.

this game feels like rasing with best hand on 3th street, cathing bad on 4th and 5th and foldiong, all the time!

i think of ordering sklanksy on poker, will it help me?

fold 4th.

PS: My win rate is higher for Razz than any other game, with the smallest amount of variance, odd how you cannot beat it. I'd lean towards misapplication of the fundamentals.

Sklansky on Poker does include something about folding fourth when you catch bad and the other guy catches good unless it was two bets on third street, so that might help. I seem to have misplaced my copy, but it really is very good.

Depends on whether you're willing to put effort into learning the game.

In my (donkish/Razz newbie) opinion, Razz is the easiest of the Stud games. No suits to track and you only have to keep track of the dead cards from half the deck (lower than 8 or so). And most people play Razz really, really poorly - especially at the low limits.

There are a couple of good fundamentals posts recently on this board that really increased my winrate when I'm playing Razz in HORSEaments (i.e. I'm nearly always the best Razz player in a $5STT). Besides the basics of limit in general (when to raise vs. call, and when to call thin for value vs. folding in a big pot), you need to know which cards to track.

Two basics I gleaned from them:
1) Track the dead low cards that you need to fill your low. When you hold A26 but the dead cards fall 3,3,5,4,7,8 - you aren't looking good.
2) Track the dead cards that match cards you hold - they are good for you so you have less chance of pairing up. When you hold A26, and the dead cards fall A,6,2,K,9,A - all you see are big worthless cards and cards that can pair you that you can't catch. This is good.

This might be pretty basic, but from a board reading standpoint you have to remember to toss the two worst cards your villain has (two highest, high and a paired card, or two paired cards) to figure out the best hand he can be drawing to. If villain holds XXA7AJ8 (toss the A and J) and you have a made 6 or a made smooth 7, time to bet for value as villain can't hold better than an 8-7 low and can't draw a better hand than a 7. Even if you think you are behind, if you hold a live 6 draw in this case you should have a pretty easy call in a big pot as making your hand guarantees you the pot.

I usually don't post quotes as a reply, but with the exception of PLO, the above is true for me as well.

Sooo many players are sooo bad at this game.

Yes, get Sklansky on Poker if you plan to continue playing.

The key to razz is timed stealing.

The Razz section is hands down the best, easiest to apply poker book I have ever read. The advice is so brutally simple and easy to apply.

And the amazing thing is that, for me at least, some of the really simple (and good) advice wasn't that intuitively obvious to me.
