I'm not sure what stage everyone is at and I don't want to repeat myself or have this lost if people aren't ready so please check in to this thread if you have done the following -
1. Picked a niche 2. Registered a domain name 3. Setup hosting If a good few people check in then I'll stick up the info on how to get listed on google in a couple of days rather than the 6 weeks or so it takes if you submit your page via their usual registration form. |

can't you pay high pagerank sites to give you a backlink for a month or so

Or do it for free by the method I mentioned above. Bay area Craig'slist is a PR8 site. The spiders are all over it.
Put an ad up and you should be indexed within a day or two. Cheers, Josh |

Seriously guys, listen to JoshK. This is excellent advice.
The stuff I want to talk about is a bit more indepth and will help you target your site at the right keywords but the basis is essentially the same. Find a high PR site and get a link to your site on there. You can pay if you want but there are plenty of free sites that'll do just as well. Didn't mean to sound cryptic in my OP just wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page. |

frinkenstein,
then wouldn't that apply to posting on craigslist as well? they don't keep ads forever do they? |

It's not about getting ranked. It's about getting indexed. At least that's what I had thought when I read the OP.

question, is getting indexed quickly really that important? what strategies are you guys using in terms of content development and how often you post new items?
