Had a disagreement on how this should be played...

MattLarson does not show cards. MattLarson wins $1.50 --- I think MattLarson should have checked the A turn. He was only getting called if he was beat. I would have checked, checked the river as well. I think we let the other guy try to make a steal, and catch him. Your thoughts? -Ernie S. Irwin |

Re: Had a disagreement on how this should be played...
You let somebody play to a possible flush and TP. Overall this was played horribly. So, now you think you should give them another free card??

Re: Had a disagreement on how this should be played...
Well, what I'm getting at here is maximizing his value for his hands.
At the table, everyone was folding to standard 3 bets, until monster hands would come up against each other. My idea was to play a little slower, allow the other person to catch up a little/get a chance to stab, and then actually get return on his KK. Preflop I raise every time. But after he checked his option, I think it was smarter to try to actually win a meaningful pot. I mean, if he wanted to take it down right there, he could have raised. -Ernie S. Irwin |

Don't you think it would be better to raise/make more bets with a wider range of hands then slowplay KK?

Re: Had a disagreement on how this should be played...
Perhaps, but in that instance, he chose to limp in with KK. He chose to initially slow play.
I'm saying he shouldn't switch gears like that, otherwise there was no reason to limp his KK anyways. -Ernie S. Irwin |

Re: Had a disagreement on how this should be played...
um. so he chose to give his opponent four free cards as opposed to charging him to see any.
I don't think there's a 25nl game on earth where slowplaying kings is optimal play. |

Re: Had a disagreement on how this should be played...
Why slow play KK at all? It's easily beaten and is no where near strong enough to slowplay. If your going to slowplay do it with a nut flush/straight or top boat, not a single pair of kings with a flush draw on the board.
The only time I ever check kings or aces preflop is when I'm UTG and there are 2 maniacs behind me that have 30-40% preflop raised. Even then I reraise as soon as they bet into me. Kings have to be raised preflop to be played properly at small stakes, there are too many people limping with crap not to. Your kings aren't going to look too hot when SB or BB turns over a crap two pair like 83o because you let him in for free. |
