Could I have played this any worse??
I was playing 3-6 at a local Indian Casino last Sat night/Sun morning. It was your typical 3-6 game. Lots of limping very little raising usually at least 5 to the flop and usually 3 to the river. I have been card dead for at least the last hour. I have folded every hand other than my big blind for more than 3 complete orbits. Some information on the opponents of this hand. The SB likes to see flops. She will bet if she hits the flop and check/ call if she misses, usually stays around until at least the turn. The BB is the SB's husband. He plays a little tighter but still see lots of flops. UTG is new to the table, been there about 30 minutes. So far he has shown that he will bet if he's in a hand but won't raise. EP3 is also new to the table, he sat down right after UTG. He has been in every hand since he sat down. CO was quite proud to show 53o when he rasied pre-flop a short time ago and everyone else folded. So he can be tricky. On to the hand.
UTG calls, folded to EP3 who calls, CO raises and I find KdKc on the button and I call. SB calls and BB calls. 6 to the flop for approximately 5 BBs (after rake). Flop 8h 10s 3c rainbow. SB checks, BB checks UTG bets, EP3 calls, CO raises, I call???, SB folds, BB now check/3bets. UTG calls, EP3 calls CO calls, I call??? 12.5 BBs Turn Ks (8h 10s 3c). BB bets UTG calls, EP3 calls, CO calls, I raise. BB calls, UTG calls, EP3 calls, CO folds. 21.5 BBs River 4s making the final board: 8h, 10s, 3c Ks, 4s. Checked to me and I check??? BB has a set of 3s I turn over my cards and UTG and EP3 muck without showing. I know that I was supposed to 3 bet pre-flop but I was card dead for so long I felt that if I 3 bet I might as well turn my cards over. Yes, I know I should have done it anyway. My questions are: Was it right to call the check/3bet by the BB, when I was quite certain he had a set? Even though I was closing the action should I have folded? Do I value bet the river? I know that I have the BB and UTG beat. UTG would have bet the flush if he was on the flush draw. The only one I was worried about was EP3. Was this a case of only a better hand calling the bet or do I suck it up and bet for value? I know I butchered this hand pre-flop. I know that you are not supposed to try and make tricky plays in small limit games because they just don't pay attention. But how was the rest of the hand? Thanks......... |

Re: Could I have played this any worse??
you really butchered this hand.
3 bet PF, 3bet the flop, and bet the river. There are so many fundamental mistakes here, I don't even know where to start. |

Re: Could I have played this any worse??
Raise Preflop. You don't need to get tricky with this hand preflop against those players. Reraise to fold SB/BB and for value against whatever garbage those other players are holding.
Reraise the flop. This is a pretty good flop for you and you almost certainly have the best hand at this point. You are missing value against these donkeys by not raising. Bet/3bet the turn, and bet/call the river. Tons of hands are paying you off here. You have to bet this for value. |

Re: Could I have played this any worse??
I think the cold call preflop was mistake #1 which is supported by the sentence, "6 to the flop". I think you could have cut down 2 maybe 3 players from that. Mistake #2 IMO, was not 3 betting the flop and then not capping the flop. Yea someone could have trips, but you are folding here and calling isn't helping. Once that King hits the turn, bet/raise until the cows come home, I don't think too many people are putting you on KK here. You must knock out flush draws.
I say bet out here on the river, it is checked to you. I can't believe that a flush is checking here unless it is a pitiful one in which they probably would have folded this earlier. |

To answer your title question, no, unless you fold one of the streets.

Re: Could I have played this any worse??
You got one thing right...that you figured you couldn't have played it worse.
Three-betting preflop would NOT have given your hand away in the least. They probably would have just figured you were getting frisky and either given you action (with less than quality hands) or folded, increasing your equity (KK is premium but you win more often with less opponents). I defintely would have 3-bet the flop, and if I didn't I would have called the 3-bet...but I wouldn't have called it cold. The way it worked out, you should have raised again. Then on the turn you played it right: RAISE. On the river you have to bet, you should get a few calls and the chance that you are beat is almost none. |

Who cares if they know you have a strong hand. At 3-6, they're still going to call. I've had people comment about my folding for the past hour and then cold call my EP raise w/ A4o. Not to mention, the pot is starting to get somewhat big and you wouldn't mind getting some dead money in there. |

All the replies are spot on. If you're not willing to gamble with KK, find another hobby.
