Default Pre-Employment Test Questions

With the passing of the new legislation I have decided to go back to work after 3 years of playing poker for a living. Last week I went for a second interview and was given a test. Some of the questions were to test logical thinking and I couldn't come up with the answer to one at all and guessed at another. These were all a series that you had to come up with the next item in the series. There were a total of about 15 questions and only the 2 really stumped me.

An example of an easier question was: 7 11 19 35 ___
The answer being 67 - the first number was increased by 4, the second by 8, the third by 16, so the fourth would go up by 32.

The one that I just guessed at was 6 7 6 8 ____
The choices were 6,7,8 or 9. I chose 6 as it seemed to me that the series would continue 6 9 6 10.

The question that I had absolutely no clue on and would really like an answer to was: A F Z U G L _____
The choices were O, C, X, N - I guessed C for no reason at all.

Any help with the answers and the logic behind them will be appreciated.

I would have guessed 6 for the first question and been pretty confident it was right.

For the second the only thing that makes sense to me is O. The sequence goes vowel, 2 consonants, vowel, 2 consonants.

You lucked out on the seconde one. The sequence is up 5 letters down 9 down 5, up 9, up 5...and then down 9 again to get to C

I think the answer is 'O'? The letters seem to be chosen by increments of 5. My little diagram illustrates my point.

Your answer would be T in your example which isnt one of the choices. A friend of mine came up with the same logic but O would be the answer following T.

If they're not going to hire me because I missed questions like those, then I wouldn't want to work there any way.
