best book for basic 7 stud strategy?

What's the best book for a crash course in 7 stud for a player already familiar with poker concepts and strategy? I'm looking to make my game more versatile. I feel like 7 stud for Advanced Players might be too much for me right now, but is it? I'm picking up SS2 soon so is the 7 stud section enough for me to start out with?

ss2 has a high low stud section. ss1 has the one your looking for. id suggest reading that a few times. its very helpful. also read articles on the card player forum under 7 card stud archives. roy west has a very good book for beggining players that you might want to pick up

i started with the ss1 section and then read 7csfap. it wasnt too much for me but you never know. also posting hands on the stud forum is VERY helpful

I've read all the common books on SCS, and everything was bad except for 2+2's Seven Card Stud for Advanced Players, its one of the best books 2+2 has released. If you want to take it slowly read the questions & answers first so you have a clue, then go back and read the entire book from the start.

Ignore Super System, Roy West's book, etc etc etc... its all crap compared to SCSfAP. All of the winning players in the Stud forum would agree with my advice.

i respect tt posts. however, i think you want to start with roy west's book, then read 7sfap. i used to play a lot of stud, and i have helped many people learn the game.

I did not like Roy's book, it was missing discussions about pot size in relation to the hero's actions. It was too basic, to a point where the hero can develop very bad habits that will be hard to unlearn.

I don't think all the winning players would call the SS chapter on stud "crap", regardless of what book it were being compared to.

I hold amulet's opinions in high regard when it comes to poker books but have to agree with TT here. Roy West's book is extraordinarily basic and vanilla. Other than someone at a very basic level of card playing, it won't provide any information to help grow your stud game.

Sigh. Here's winning stud forum long-time poster, low stakes player and poker author who believes Roy West's book has significant value FOR A BEGINNER or someone new to stud. His book is simplistic for someone who's played a fair bit, but it introduces advanced concepts, particularly hand-reading, that are essential. Chip Reese's section in SS is fine. And SSFAP is then a good read for (wait for it) more advanced players.
