I need some ideas for leather-bound books that are considered "classics" for a gift. I also need to know where to get it, obviously. The recipient will be an intelligent, thoughtful woman. Any thoughts, OOT?

The Easton Press prints them. There are other companies. Usually they want you to buy a series - one a month. I have called, though, and was able to buy a particular book that I wanted (To Kill A Mockingbird - of course). If you can't find a # or site let me know, I'll find a phone number for you.

I am a dealer and collector of antiquarian books.
A couple of questions. Do the books need to be old, or just present nicely? Are there specific titles or subject matter you are interested in? There are a few companies that put out leather bound copies of classics, including Franklin and Eaton press. You might pay about $25 per volume for the less desirable titles. Heritage press does some illustrated, but usually not leather bound titles cheaper than that. If you are looking for older leather bound titles you will have to pay more than I am guessing you want to spend for desirable titles in nice shape. I guess what it comes down to is I can't tell you a whole lot without more details as to exactly what you want. |

In response to your questions: The books do not need to be old, but that is fine too. The only specific title I had in mind was a collection of Shakespeare's Sonnets, as long as the collection included his 18th sonnet, "Shall I Compare Thee To A Summer's Day." Other general topics would include anything romantic (but not cheesy, obviously). Basically, I want something that would make a nice gift now but would also be a worthwhile addition to a collection for years to come. |
