Default Help Lastchance find good Seattle food

This is just a post that hopefully leads me to getting better food in the area, despite living near here most of my life. I'm a freshman at UW right now, and I hope some 2+2ers can help me find more/better food. I've been able to glean a bit already in the area, most of it and more is on this web page.

I expect to pay $7 a meal in general, no more than $10 (before taxes+tip).

I'd prefer posts about food near the U District, but posts about general Seattle area food is also fine. Thanks all. Any suggestions welcomed.

i dont think your going to get great food cheap in the U-district. i thought you were after [censored] like Palisades or nicer restaurants.

Hopefully Dids will jump in with some good suggestions.

As somebody who eats in the U Dist almost every day.

7 bucks isn't doing it imo, unless you just want to drown in Teriyaki.

Where we eat on the Ave:

Finn McCools. Irish Pub, good standard bar food, breakfast, very nice (and attractive staff). The owner, Peter, rules.

Than Vi- good cheap Viet option.

Thaiger Room/Thai 65- basically the same place, goodish Thai food, mostly in your price range.

A Burger Place: Servicable burgers, cheap.

Thai Tom is one of the best Thai places in Seattle, but it's hella crowded, opens when it feels like and the service is a little iffy to my standards (which are kinda picky).

Shultzy's. Very good.

Smokin Dick's BBQ is up north on the Ave, newish. Not great, but the best (and only) spot for BBQ on the ave.

Tokyo Garden is the best Teriyaki on the Ave imo.

Araya which is a touch off the Ave is a very good vegan thai buffet.

Cedars and Shalimar are Indian places, both pretty good. There's two Cedars, one kindof a sandwich place and one a more expensive sit down place.

Is Finn's good for a kid who can't legally drink yet? I doubt they'd just give me beer without a fake ID, plus I don't really like beer.

I will try Than Vi. The Viet place I have tried is Than Brothers, and it was pretty good, plus the service is ridiculous there.

Thai65/Thaiger Room sounds good, though I didn't find the service at Thai Tom to be that spotty (and it was probably the best Thai food I've ever had).

If a Burger Place is just serviceable, I'd rather not go there, because I don't like American food much, and I can get burgers on campus.

I will go to Shultzy's though.

Meh @ BBQ. I'm sure there's Korean BBQ.

I will eventually head to Tokyo Garden, same with Araya.

Thanks for the suggestions, awesome. Shalimar is good, but not that good, and it's expensive. Will be heading to Cedars.

I doubt this is going to help you, but Lil' Tokyo Teriyaki on Mercer Island has the best damn fried rice of any restaurant I've ever been in. It's even good reheated (swear!). Whenever I go back up to Seattle I make a trip out there.

Actually, I come from Mercer Island. I'm pretty sure I've heard of the place (used to do a bit of takeout there, if I recall correctly). Decent japanese food, but Kiku in Overlake next to Uwajimaya is leagues better. Fried rice is ridiculously easy to cook, BTW (not that I cook).
