Max Buyin or Buying in Short
I am new to the SSNL forum, and have tried to use the search function and also looked in the stickies... but without any luck....
What are the thoughts on buyin in for the max allowed versus only buyin in for 30-50BB when you first sit down. Does everyone think people that buy in short are idiots and only buy in short because they don't have confidence in their "abilities" I find buyin in short much easier having played mostly SNGs, MTTs..... fewer hard decisions when buyin in short. Thanks for any input..... |

Re: Max Buyin or Buying in Short
we make money by making better decisions than other people, i want to cover everyone who is worse than me, which at most SSNL tables is everyone.

Re: Max Buyin or Buying in Short
In theory, buying in short could be correct, but most of your opponents will be so bad that not having a full stack will pretty much always be incorrect in practice.

Re: Max Buyin or Buying in Short
What would the advantages be for buying in short? That we cant get bluffed off of Top Pair like AQ on A27 flop and facing All In reraise?

Re: Max Buyin or Buying in Short
Its easier because you don't need to make decisions past the flop in general, and because playing speculative hands against you becomes a mistake even if you will stack off with good but not great hands all the time (because there weren't the odds preflop against you much in the first place). You can also take advantage of anyone who raises too much preflop by pushing for your re-raise with hands ahead of that guys range. In general playing with a short stack is fine, and it actually makes a lot of sense if you are not one of the best players at the table. However, playing small stakes you should be able to make a much higher win rate if you have the biggest stack on the table, because (in theory) you should be one of the best players on the tables, and you can stack weak players at any time, so you maximize value.
Also, I should add that players at 50NL and below are so bad, that if you just play solid hands pre-flop, and try to get all in with good but not great hands, you will do fine.. As you move up this could make AK and the like losing hands. |

Re: Max Buyin or Buying in Short
playing with a short buyin in an otherwise deepstacked game is very +EV, but playing deep is more fun

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, basically, and you'll get a lot more mathematically incorrect calls against your primo hands. It's definitely better to play short if you don't know how you match up vs. your opponents. When you're confident that you play better than at least a few people at the table, you want all of your hardware. |

Re: Max Buyin or Buying in Short
When you are one of the better players at the table, you want to buy in full in order to force the largest possible mathematical mistakes from opponents. That's how you make money.
