Default New 1-2 NL Games

Many of the new 1-2 NL games have increased the max buy-ins to $200 or $300. Are the blinds even relevant anymore in these games for gauging betting strategy?

The blinds should still function as a psychological reference point for "standard" bets for most people, especially preflop. A standard preflop raise will probably still be 3-4 times the big blind. Anything more than that will be seen as excessive and less likely to get any action unless someone has a really big hand.

Apparently you've never played 1-2 NL in a casino.

Yes absolutely! Just because there are 100BB to 150BB stacks commonly on the table does not mean that the game is suddenly going to play like a 2/5 or 5/10 game. You are not going to see a standard opening raise of $25 to $75 like you will in a 2/5 game or $50 to $150 like you will in a 5/10.

The profits can be bigger, but remember, there are minimum buy-ins as well (probably 100 dollars or less). A lot of people playing 1/2 at casinos are looking to get into the cheapest game possible and have very little bankrolls (actually they don't play enough to consider their "bankroll"). So a lot of the play will be limited by these stacks. But there will also be a lot more huge stacks. 1000 dollar stacks in a 1/2NL max 100 game are fairly rare at the casino. you might have one at the table. but at a 300 Max game, a lot of the good players will be at 1000 regularly and so will a decent chunck of maniacs, and it will be common to see 1500 stacks and sometimes 2000 stacks. So, formerly when you got to 1000 stack, basically you only had to worry about 1 guy at the table, and even he probably wouldn't have enough to bust you anyway. Now, you have a 1000 stack and you can donk it away.

If someone raised to $6 or $8 in a 1/2 NL game they are going to get called in 6+ spots. I find in live games raises should be a lot more, usually in the $15-25 range

At foxwoods, they give you $1 and $5 chips. Rather than make change all the time, most people bet/raise in increments of $5, and a PF raise could be $40 or more.

The average preflop raise in AC is $10-$15. Anything less gets called by almost everybody.
