The Heavy Walker Dilemma
Alright, here's the story, boys. I need some advice, input, funny statements, and call-to-action.
For the last 7 months, I have been living with my g/f in our first apartment experience. We live on the bottom floor, and are generally quiet people. Since we moved in, the same tenants have lived above us. They seem to have lead feet, or extremely heavy feet, and cause rumbling almost anytime they do anything. Sometimes it's a quiet walk, sometimes it sounds like their bowling a ten frame game. It's pretty fair to report that these sounds rarely have woken me up, or kept me from falling asleep. I go to bed around midnight or so, because I try to wake up for work between 6 and 7. These sounds consistently continue until 3 am. We have never called them or the landlord to complain, because frankly, I haven't wanted to be a nit. But lately, it's gotten ridiculous. Is this common in apartments? I know it happens, but should I expect it? Should I do anything? |

Re: The Heavy Walker Dilemma
That's normal. Just remember, they can hear every sound you make downstairs, when you're having sex. Deal with it or buy a house.

it's way common. Floors in apartments are superthin.
It sucks. |

Re: The Heavy Walker Dilemma
No, they cannot hear if you walk heavily. This is why you get an upstairs apartment - much less noise. This more than makes up for the hassle moving in/out, bringing in groceries, etc.

Re: The Heavy Walker Dilemma
Yup. Another option is to have loud sex in the middle of the day when they have company. Repeatedly.
Trust me - an effort to keep it down will be made. |

Re: The Heavy Walker Dilemma
this used to drive me crfazy when I was living in apartments. I know in Los Angeles, if you have aan apartment that's above someone elses, it is required by law that you cover no less than 70% of your floor space with carpeting/rugs. Maybe your city has the same law? Ask your landlord.
Otherwise, there ain't nothing you can do about it. They have the right to do walk around their own apartment. |
