Checking the river dark
Loose fish has a baby 4 str8 on fourth and calls my paired door. I pound all the way, get raised on sixth when he apparently makes his 2-6 str8. I still have the str8, and am first to act. I check it dark and fish insta-checks after, as I suspected he would. Good or am I growing gills?

Re: Checking the river dark
I'd like to know what exactly your hand is, sounds reasonable though.

Re: Checking the river dark
Sort of confused here. Villain has a 2-6 straight, and you have a straight also?

Re: Checking the river dark
I've never checked dark in high-only stud, and I don't think I'd start here, either. If you have the straight on sixth, I'd just three-bet there, look at my river card, and bet again.

Re: Checking the river dark
i figured you for trips, not a str8. (paired door card) is this a continuation of another post? if you were trying to fill and you suspect that villian has str8 then yes you should be able to get him to bet more than half of the time. otherwise if you have larger str8, (still?) then 3 betting and leading at the river seems to make more sense.

Re: Checking the river dark
Sorry, sorry. I still had my trips on sixth, he apparently made a baby straight. When he raises, I'm pretty sure he's there. Since I have to act first on river (and the bet is double on that street only in this weird game) I am a dog to fill. So rather than look and check, giving hiim a cue to bet, I check dark figuring he'll probably check behind, fearing I've filled. If I'm willing to fold to a bet uniproved, I'd look. but since I planned to look him up (he's capable of a bluff), I thought this was a rare spot where checking dark could work for me.

Re: Checking the river dark
I think checking dark, then looking and raising any bet is great.

Re: Checking the river dark
If you fill, betting out is your best opportunity to collect three bets.
