Bruiser et. al.,

1) Make sure you have read and continue to reread the good PLO texts that are out there and have a good grasp of theory.

2) Utilize the wonderful resource that is this forum and the archives.

3) Realize that playing HU and sh'd is different, but that you still have to play soundly even though an opponent's range is much wider.

4) Go over your own hand histories and classify various hands into different categories: top set, top set + draw, middle set, big draws, weak draws, board sets, etc. Reread Sklanksy's essay on the 8 mistakes in poker in GTBOI, and use that with the theory you know to analyze your play on each street. And even though we shouldn't generally use a results dependant analysis, it is valid to work backwards as if your opponents' hands were faceup and then ask yourself what you should have done on each street.

5) Remember that a lot of PLO like other forms of poker comes down to starting hand selection, position and selective aggresssion.

6) Keep a daily diary in which you note your mistakes, good plays, random strategy thoughts you have as well as strategy pointers you read in books or here, things you need to work on, notes on a particular stakes level and how it plays differently than the one below or above, etc.

While some may prefer personal coaching, using an ongoing methodical plan for improvement like this will pay big dividends and you essentially coach yourself along with help from other posters here.

I play omaha for a living, and already have a few students that I am teaching. Send me an email at twilo17cc@yahoo.com if you would like to chat about it.
