Default Lightning Poll on Waste Management

I am trying to settle an argument with a co-worker about how various states/cities handle waste management and how its paid.

Please tell me if you pay your waste management company a fee directly OR if you pay for waste management through property or some other tax. Also please state your city and state. Thanks.

I've been asked to respond, but I'll note that my opinion is pointless because I pay through my apartment complex who sends out a combined water/garbage bill. I do know that it's paid via a bill that's sent out, and NOT through tax.

I'm in Mill Creek WA.

Aurora, IL: We pay the waste hauler.
Same in the 4 other places I have lived within Illinois.

I've never heard of anything buy paying the hauler directly.

Combination of property taxes and our city requires us to purchase special city trash bags @ $1 apiece. Worcester, MA.

But that's all you pay, there's no monthly trash bill?

That seems especially vile. Are they at least good bags?

If you consider a quarterly tax bill of ~ $900 small then yes that is all I pay. Plus the crappy city trash bags that hold about a gallon and a half of garbage for a buck apiece.

Kilgore,

That's what we're getting at. Your waste management fees are a combination of the fee for the bag and taxes. So far you're the one state that seems to support the notion of these fees being assesed via tax rather than a bill.

Albuquerque, New Mexico. Trash pickup is paid through property taxes, I believe. Trash pickup is run by the city, not outsourced. I don't pay a monthly bill or buy special trashbags (WTF?) Only restriction is that you can only put out one container's worth of trash a week. They will also give you a recycle bin if you request one.

Water is a bill paid to the city. It does not include waste management.
