a good spot to rein in my inner call-down monkey?
$2/$4 WPX, we're 7 handed
Read on BB: rockish to the tune of 11/6/2 over 134 old hands, and more recent observations confirm the read. Hero gets J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 folds, Hero raises, 3 folds, BB 3-bets, Hero calls, thinking, "OK, the rock 3-betting there isn't as scary as it could be because he could be defending light, especially since we're shorthanded." Flop: 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] BB bets, Hero raises, BB 3-bets, Hero calls. Turn: 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] BB checks. Hero bets, thinking, "OK, maybe he was defending light/crazy, or missed w/A-K." BB raises. Hero happily folds? Flop OK? |

ive never been a PT guy, but isnt 2 on the high side.
and rocks generally aren't FPS type players. It smells funney and I want a look up call. It's like he is using a sledgehammer to kill a fly. It doenst fit. Sarge[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] |

ive never been a PT guy, but isnt 2 on the high side. [/ QUOTE ] With an 11 VPIP, a 2 AF is actually fairly low. Meaning, like most rocks, he waits for his big hands and then sticks with them to showdown come hell or high water. I think that best case we're drawing to two outs here, worst case he went & flopped quads on us. And I check through that turn 100% of the time, planning to call a bet on a non-A, non-K (non-J, obviously) river, out of curiousity more than any expectation of winning. |

I'd just call down from the flop given the read. I'd also check behind the turn given the action.

Re: a good spot to rein in my inner call-down monkey?
You're exaggerating the possibility that he's defending here:
-7 handed isn't that shorthanded -Rocks tend not to be that positionally aware -Even though a good player should be raising somewhat lightly in the hijack, that's still early enough that you shouldn't be completely FOS here |

I play it like Hobbs. This guy 3-betting is scaaary. I'm always taking a note when a player like this 3-bets something I wouldn't expect. |

Given the tight player's three-bets both preflop and on the flop, Hero is ahead here, like, never.

Re: a good spot to rein in my inner call-down monkey?
I don't think I've ever seen a guy with an 11% PFR screwplay the turn with a hand that couldn't beat JJ on this board. Hero is toast.
As others have mentioned, I prefer a call down to Hero's line, and I would have checked behind on the turn. |

If your gonna bet the turn against this opponent, you need to fold to the raise.

Yeah I meant calling down from the flop.
