Ashley Parker Angel: There and Back

OK. I'm flipping through TV this weekend and there's a show on MTV "There and Back." I have no idea what it is, so I put it on. Apparently it's the reality TV show of Ashley Parker Angel. Who? Yeah, that's what I said, too. Apparently he was in O-Town. Who? Yeah, me too. Apparently the winner of MTV Making the Band and a somewhat popular boy band - I guess 98 Degrees popular, not Backstreet Boys popular.

Now this guy is out on his own and trying to make it and somehow has his own MTV show. Anyway, the show really sucks as expected and there's nothing worth talking about save one thing.

Throughout the show, they use the Zack Morris effect. In the middle of a scene (remember, this is a REALITY SHOW!), time stops and Ashley Parker Angel jumps out of the scene and starts talking to the camera. It is f'in hilarious!

Sometimes I think that you may be spending too much time picking through the utter crap to find these little gems for us. But I'm glad somebody is out there, taking one for the team.

i watched this show for the second time tonight with my gf and made just the comment that you posted, i told her that it may be the first mtv reality show that is better trippin' on shrooms.

other than that his name sounds like a pornstar to me.

td: Seriously, it's f'in hilarious isn't it? I TiVo'd a second episode and just fast forwarded to his Zack Morris scenes.

Sponger: Not quite that perfect, but pretty damn close. He'll be walking along and then be like "OK, hold up <FREEZE>" then step out of scene and emote something intense like "<TALK TO CAMERA> wow, this is heavy, I'm about to meet w/ Scott Stapp about co-writing a song, I'm so nervous this is really huge!" or whatever. I don't know if he has the same routine to start off every freeze-frame. I guess I'll have to watch some more episodes.

Ok, I watched this Making The Band show when it was on several years ago during the reality show explosion. Lou Pearlman (same guy who found Backstreet Boys) picked 5 guys from a bunch to start a group. The show basically details their life as they develop this band. Nothing too interesting.

The band had a few hits, but never rose to the level of popularity of Nsync and others.

This guy was one of them. He wasn't the lead singer or anything, but he wasn't one of the ones who stirred up controversy either. In other words, he was the quiet musical guy who stayed out of trouble. I'm surprised he would be the one that would get this show; perhaps the other ones have had more success after the band breakup. Who knows.

Haven't watched this show though. Nor do I plan to.
