off topic, but something I didn't realize about Aaron's record chase:

As the 1974 season began, Aaron's pursuit of the home run record caused a small controversy. The Braves opened the season on the road in Cincinnati with a three game series. Braves management wanted him to break the record in Atlanta. Therefore, they were going to have Aaron sit out the first three games of the season. Commissioner Bowie Kuhn ruled that he had to play two out of three.

wtf?

Not if you look at it from a fans perspective. you bought tickets to watch Arron play and maybe break the record and then the Braves decide to sit him? I
d be pissed and the commish is about getting more $$ into baseball which means keeping hte fans happy.

the coach should have had him come on as a pinch hitter to bunt in 2/3 games.

How can they force him to play? That sounds ridiculous. Does anyone know more about this, ie what rule the commissioner would invoke to force this?

"I've known Barry quite a few years. Unfortunately I've been on the other side and seen quite a few balls leave the ballpark," Bochy said. "I have not made any decision on Barry Bonds. Barry Bonds is on this ballclub and I look forward to managing Barry Bonds."

There's a ringing endorsement!
