Default Am I being brushed aside?

I just had my front brake pads replaced and my tires rotated. On my way home I noticed that the steering wheel would shake at speeds above 55 mph, very noticeable at 60-65mph.

I talked to a friend who said this was due to the mechanic not balancing the tires correctly (or something like that, involving torwue). I called the mechanic the next day and asked if this was related to the brake noise, which my mechanic said was normal. He said it's because the tires hadn't been rotated in a while, and will even out in 500-700 miles. Hmm.

So is steering wheel shake really caused by slightly uneven tires? And after 500 miles, am I still going to be able to say that this is definitely due to something the mechanic did?
