Default Maybe Crazy: NRA

Isn’t the National Rifle Association big on personal freedom? I would assume they do not appreciate our government chipping away at our rights. The NRA certainly has a big voice in Washington. Are they any NRA members on 2plus2?

Why would the NRA take a stand on an issue totally unrelated to guns?

Legalizing drugs and gay marriage are also personal freedom issues, but I highly doubt the NRA rank and file would be happy if their organization started to spend their dues in support of those causes.

I am a memeber of the NRA and I have to agree with 4_2_it, in that just because they are for personal freedom (as it relates to the "right to bear arms") they are not an organization to carry someone elses cross. Keep in mind that the NRA has a huge base on the "right" side of the isle and these are the folks that fell into the rank and file to allow the gambling bill to slide through in the Port Security bill.

I'm a life long NRA member and I can assure you that while the vast majority of the NRA members would be FOR our cause, (remember the NRA is the largest right wing Conservative special interest group) their cause supports our 2nd Amendment rights only. They will not be spending their money to help out poker players when the money was given for gun owner rights.

HOWEVER, the NRA is the poster child for what we as poker players need. What it requires is simple.....lots and lots of money donated by individual poker players, money donated by the likes of 2+2, Cardplayer etc, and a stong enough will and dedication by some folks to get the ball rolling and getting the right people out there as spokesman.

Basically the PPA could be this organization for us, but it doesn't seem to be run very well, at least not in the area of getting the base (us) involved.

I agree the NRA won't help out because it's not their cause.

It's worth pointing out, quite a few NRA members do play poker and support the cause. I'd recommend researching how the NRA is such an effective organization.

We defintely want the folks with the guns on our side.

God I hope not. I'm sure the NRA members that have responded are fine people, but personally I want nothing to do with the NRA.

I'm an NRA member. They definitely don't support giving the federal government the powers this bill does. That being said, I don't imagine the organization will come out either for or against online poker....they don't like to spread too thin, nor do they wish to fracture their group with issues not related to the Second Amendment.

We need an organization like this. At least we can work with various libertarian groups.

I agree the NRA would naturally support the freedom to spend your money/gamble it as you would wish. However, it would be irresponsible of the NRA to spend its money on an issue other than gun rights. We need an organization like the NRA to defend our rights. Maybe it is the PPA or maybe it is an organization yet to be established. Let's face it, the PPA is no NRA.
