Default Hockey 10/23-10/29

Yesterday 0-1, -1 unit, YTD 21-20, +3.99 units

How can I have a winning record when all the bets that I think have a big edge lose?

Atlanta +144 (-0.5)(reg only)
LA +165
Edmonton +147 (-1.5)

I put down 2 units apiece on Sabers money line, Atl -0.5, and Oilers -0.5

Tough break on LA

Are you going for anything tonight?
I like the Senators on the money line and the Flames at -0.5. I'm a big Devils fan so I'm way too subjective to bet well for or against them.

So I guess so far (all of 2 nights) I would be 6-0 and I'm apprixmately up 13.5u, but with a pretty miniscule bankroll

Take the Devils. Lay -1.5 goals for +210 odds. Profit.
(that's a pick, folks). Big rebound tonight as they show they're still very relevant in the East.

Post your picks before games and then your record

Totally irrelevant. Only thing that matters here is picking well.

Anyway, I want to pull the trigger on the Coyotes. The line has been moving up all morning while I'm doing my capping. I just can't seem to do it...

Okay I went with your Devils pick -0.5 @ +125 for 1u

Senators on the money line @ -136 for 1.5u

Flames -0.5 @ -142 for 1u

I think the Sens should have this. They found themselves in a big way agains the Devils the other night and they always show up to play against Toronto.

OK, so the public seems to have had time to sufficiently say ZOMG LOOK AT THIS LINE CALGARY RULEZ.

I hate to do this. Coyotes +262 (REG ONLY - NOT OT INCLUDED)

Yes, so there's a reason that teams are offered at longshot odds

In all seriousness, Phoenix is very bad. Their penalty kill is horrific, and this is made more problematic by the fact that they take more penalties than any other team. Also, their power play is totally non-existant. They don't get the puck into the offensive zone on power plays. It's pathetic. I think laying half a goal against them with any positive odds will be a good bet for the near future until they get their act together.

Yesterday 1-2, -0.72 units, YTD 24-23, +5.18 units.

I have some time for writeups today since the dog's sick and doesn't want to go for a walk before I go to work.

Detroit +150 (-0.5)(reg only) This is a close pick. SJ has run well so far this year, but Detroit is still a good team that is playing at home on a day's rest after a 4 game west coast road swing. I think the odds dictate taking them here.

Vancouver (-0.5)(+104)(reg only) You have to feel for Chicago. They get out to one of their best starts in years and then the injury bug hits them hard - Khabiboulin (yes, it's probably misspelled) breaks his finger after a strong start in goal and Handzus, who up till now had been huge, goes down for the season with an ACL injury. The Blackhawks are not going to play well for a month or so.

Washington/Colorado U6.5 +100. This is a lot of goals for even money, and is strictly odds related. I hope no one scores half a goal.

Edmonton +143 (OT incl.) There's a little bit of edge here. The Oilers should be around +118 or so, and I think that the overlay here justifies a bet.

Phoenix probably played their worst game of the season last night against a Flames team that was finally hungry. Nice call on Edmonton tonight, that definitley has a ton of value. I'm fading you on The Col/Wash game, I think there's going to be some fireworks in it, but I guess we'll see.

Is there a reason 7-1-1 Atlanta is a dog to 3-4-2 Carolina tonight?

Montreal +144(-0.5)(reg only)
Carolina +123
SJ -103

IIRC, Carolina was a fave last night b/c they were at home against a team that they've dominated in the past. They're also coming together and playing much better than they did in the beginning of the season. I think the line was where it was supposed to be.
