Default \'The Wire\' appreciation thread

Don't know if this show has been discussed a lot in OOT or not but it's so f'ing good that I don't mind posting a new thread even it's been covered. It really might be the highest-quality show in the history of television.

To anyone who hasn't seen the show yet, I challenge you to sit down and pay attention to one full episode and then NOT go out and rent or buy every season available.

I just watched the first 3 episodes on DVD. The guy playing McNulty keeps letting his British accent slip through, and it's so annoying that I'm not sure I want to watch anymore. Does he get a diction coach eventually?

I've just aquired the first three seasons and have began re-watching them. Definitely one of my favorite shows ever.

Yes, his accent does get straighter. I saw episodes from later seasons first, and didn't really notice anything weird until, upon wathcing season 1, my gf pointed out that his speech coach must have worked some overtime.

They also use an Irish actor to play an Italian-American politician in seasons 3 and 4, and I'm not quite sure why.

I pulled an all-nighter last night to watch the final seven episodes of season 4. Now I'm depressed that I have to wait so long for season 5. [censored] great show.

Yes, nobody talks about this show ever. There aren't threads on it every week and I haven't spent the last like year telling people abou it.

Best show on television without a doubt. I cant remember ever being disappointed with an episode. I feel sorry for those who never watched this show. I'm also envious that they would be able to watch it for the first time if they ever chose to.

Just bought season 1 after all the praise in the TV threads. The writing, the acting, the plot...all excellent. And I've only watched 4 episodes. HBO really knows how to make a great drama.
