Kind of an unusual AA hand
Curious what thought are on my turn and river action.
Bodog 10/20 I have red aces UTG and open, unknown SB and BB call. Flop 942, two of one red suit I forget which. Check x2, I bet, SB check-raises, BB folds, I 3-bet, SB caps. Turn 4 of offsuit. SB bets, I call (?) River 4. SB bets, I raise.. |

Re: Kind of an unusual AA hand
SB is absolutely representing a flopped set here. By the river we can obviously eliminate 44 from his potential holdings, so we're left with 99 or 22...we beat 22 and still lose to 99. I don't like them odds enough to raise, especially if we're calling a 3bet (and I don't see how we can't).
If he might take the same line with a weaker overpair, A9, or a flopped two pair, that makes raising the river seem better to me...but he's unknown, we don't know, and again, we pretty much have to pay off the 3bet when it comes. As far as the turn goes, I usually put in another raise there. But I usually end up getting 3bet by the flopped set and paying off anyway, so I'm starting to think that's not such a great line against unknowns. |

I think you played this hand perfectly every street, NH.

Re: Kind of an unusual AA hand
I really like the way you played this hand. I think you have to raise the river here, since we are only behind quads and 99.
Usually I am tempted to not even slow down on the turn, especially against unknowns, who coudl be getting frisky with a worse two pair NH. |

Re: Kind of an unusual AA hand
I also felt that it would be in the range of SB's hands to have a weirdly played PP.
My river decision was based on the fact that a.) I just pulled ahead of 22 - who might even still call and b.) a 4 just became less likely. I felt I was behind 99 and 99 only and ahead of a whole lot of other possible holdings. I intended to call a river 3-bet while saying "Oh [censored]." and kicking my dog. SB called and didn't show. |

Re: Kind of an unusual AA hand
what's the plan if the river came a red jack?

Re: Kind of an unusual AA hand
Does SB normally check raise with at least 2 pair, or a big draw? The cap usually means he probably has AA beat. I think you are going to see pocket nines or 24o.

Re: Kind of an unusual AA hand
fold. we are beat, He has a set of 9s, i mean really now, he wouldnt cap with just top pair.. the only hand your really gonna beat is pocket 2s, but would he really bet the river with pocket 2's after you have been calling and raising the whole way?

Re: Kind of an unusual AA hand
Do you think the river 4 counterfitted his 2 pair? That's the only reason I can think of for the turn call, river raise since he's not folding the river.

Re: Kind of an unusual AA hand
The river 4 doesn't really help you except that quad 4's is no longer in a sane player's range. I'd definitely like this line if it came running 9's though.
[ QUOTE ] I also felt that it would be in the range of SB's hands to have a weirdly played PP. [/ QUOTE ] Will he have those often enough to offset the fact that you put yourself in a lose 2/win 1situation? A turn raise might be better (if you're calling down) simply because most players are more likely to make a foolish 3bet on the turn than the river imo. |
